New Shoes?

We're in that lull between the autumn festivities of Halloween, Guy Fawkes, Diwali etc' and the time when it's actually OK to be blatantly over excited about Christmas. All is quiet. All activities that are blog worthy also need to be kept mum because they pertain to Christmas presents. So I took one for the team; selflessly, in the name of research post I bought new shoes. It was painful. But I did it.

As a child of the 90s, I was never without a pair of DM boots. Comfy and lasting-for-life, to my mind they can be work with a huge variety of outfits, not just jeans. However, for many years a gal like me had to decide between the comfort of her beloved docs and the glamour of a high heel. A tough choice, especially if you work on your feet all day.

Luckily, there is now a solution. The Dr Martens brand now do a much wider range of women's boots and shoes than in the days of my youth... a perfect addition for those of us who love both the original quality and style of the boots, and enjoy variety in our footwear and fashion. Although I must admit, when I went on the site, I wasn't looking for variety. I was looking for the highest heeled, badass 'don't mess with me' boots I could find. And I found them.
DM Gilda: £105

The Gilda boot is definitely a woman's boot, but it's neither delicate nor gentle. It means business. That's what I like about it. I also like the fact I can work a ten hour day in these boots and still feel my toes at the end of it - they have an airwave sole and the real leather flexes and supports my foot. Probably not as well as original boots, but what do you want when you're wearing "the kind of boots people pay to be walked over in"*

Terrible photo in an ill-lit pub:
this is why I don't do OOTD.

The downside is, they are an expensive outlay for non-designer - being the genuine article most come in at £90+ and at a hefty £105 (in the sale) the Gilda was no exception. What you have to bear in mind though is the quality and versatility of the boots - yes, some come in florals and brights, and I'm not sure I have the budget nor inclination to buy 'wear once' DMs ... but in a black, brown or oxblood they'll last until the cost-per-wear is down to pennies. Well worth it.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the sale - there are some more 'work essentials' I have my eye on hehehehe!

Roma: £120. WANT!

Roni: £130. YUM!

Polina: £63. CUTE!

Do you have a 'go to' shoe brand that's never out of your wardrobe?

  1. Those boots are sassy & kick-ass in equal measures, yowza! DMs are da bomb when it comes to boots. I bought my first pair in the early 90s and wore them for years, I loved them so much I actually managed to wear a hole in the leather upper before they were retired, the sole was still remarkably intact...pure quality!
