Shock Horror: Actual-New-Not-In-Sale Haul!

Yes, you heard correctly. I shopped in new-things shops on Oxford Street when there weren't big red 'SALE' signs in the windows. And I bought stuff: new stuff. Shameless.

...In my defence, I was spending 'birthday money' and vouchers (yes, yes, I am in my middle thirties, I but I still get shopping money for my birthday). In my eyes, gifted money is there to spend on something nice, and my usual rules about saving up for the sales go out of the window, and straight up to Oxford St H&M, for that was where my vouchers could be spent...

H&M sheer blouse: £19.99
Opinions were, as ever, divided on this shirt. Husband says it looks 'strange', I like it because it looks 'strange'. It has fricken hummingbirds on it - what's not to like?

Badass looking hummingbird
Then, I went for a stroll towards Fitzrovia and the British Museum. Well, I started to stroll. And thought 'what's all this fuss about Forever 21 then? I may as well go in and think snidy blogger things like how it's all just thrown together and I'd be better off making my own from charity shop burlap...' Yeah, and I went in. Reader: I shopped.

Yes, yes, the sensible part of my brain says it's just a shiny new cross between New Look and H&M. The sensible part of my brain says the 'small, medium, large' sizing system is annoying. The sensible part of my brain looks at the seams and does a Marge Simpson hmmmm.

The other part of my brain made me buy these:

Inappropriately short but pretty dress: £19
I may wear this to a wedding I am attending. It's very short and low cut, however as I wear floral maxi dresses (the nice girl's wedding choice) pretty much weekly, I thought I would ring the changes. I'll be styling it sugary 60s, in an attempt to look a bit classy, with opaque tights and this necklace:

How 60s-kitsch? £8.40
They look like sugar flowers!

I also bought a heart necklace which my friend described as "the most you thing ever". Had to be done.

Pink AND diamante AND hearts AND bows. £4.90
Then I realised that I was in some kind of shopping frenzy amongst the brightly coloured young person clothing. I paid for my items and made my escape through a side entrance and away to the British Museum, where I replenished my depleted stocks of culture- and then immediately went to the pub with my chum and watched the male swimming. I am actually quite interested in swimming, so don't look at me like that.

Anyway, I am currently paying for my day of decadence with a stonking hangover.

Oh, and one last thing... I'm off on holiday (to Wells, Somerset) next week. I am too useless to schedule posts, so expect a few short snap-and-a-sentence posts on what we're up to. Or simply draw a stick woman clutching a cheese sandwich and a pint of cider on a post it note and affix it to your internet device; the effect will be much the same. Laters, as the youngsters say...

  3. I love all the colours and adore the Hummingbird print. I enjoy mixing the old with the new, in particular the range of prints you can get these days and the classics to match with the vintage.
