It seems that every shop is struggling to sell their stock right now, during these tough times. I have been working hard to support the economy but venturing onto the high street. Which I don't normally do: it's either uber thrift at the local FARA, browsing EBay or splurging on expensive-things-to-keep at Bicester Village for me... but never fear, I wasn't paying full price. This was the sales.

Vintage Recipe Cooking!
Oh yes, I've actually got round to cooking some of my vintage recipes in a manner worthy of blogging. I fully admit, I have played it safe this time and avoided such manifestations of 70s huite cuisine as 'jellied chicken towers', but this is a bit of a warm-up on this type of post. If you likes it, let me know, and I will make more.
Oh, and certain person reading this who thinks their vegetarianism will free them of the jelly towers... two words: 'agar' and 'tofu'. No one will escape my 70s cooking wrath...

Lazy Sunday Afternoon
I haven't been up to much this weekend - which is probably a good thing, as I'm completely knackered from work and the end-of-term-germs are out in full force!
Instead of my usual social whirl (you know, going round some charity shops then to the pub) I plumped for a pop into Matalan on the way back from work followed by 48 hours of sitting around eating olives and drinking tea and/or cider. So yes, a trip to Matalan was my big day out of the last few days. Ah, the back to school displays, the overheard tantrums and mothers tell daughters they don't care if it's a holiday, they aint getting a t-shirt with that slogan on it at their age... the multipacks of tights and pants. Overwhelming sophistication.

My Mate Selena...
Selena is a mate of mine, we met in our first year of teaching. She's fab. As well as being a kind, creative and genuinely wonderful person, she is also utterly, utterly hilarious and vivacious.
...and she's dipping her toe into the blogosphere. So please give her a boost and have a look at her blog!
It's a personal journal blog, with a focus on her new healthy lifestyle. But there will, not doubt, be hilarious tales of her crazy-ass chickens, dogs, cats, friends, family and other things that make Selena tick!

The Olympiad: Soggy Chaps & Flat Caps
I don't like rain. My hair doesn't like it, my feet don't like it and my make-up most certainly doesn't like it.
But I like dressing up and drinking gin in fields (either as seperate activities, or both together). So last Saturday - in a temporary break from my normal levels of sanity - His Lordship and I braved the continuous, heavy and chilly deluge for some sporting fun. And I wore sunglasses. Just to be stubborn, like.
The clouds broke as we waited for the train...

Review: One Broad St B&B
Guess what? I’ve been trolling round Brighton again, drinkin’ cocktails and convincing His Lordship that we so need that hamburger shaped telephone from Cyberdog. (Him: “You’re a grown woman with a management role in a respected profession who claims to want a tasteful home with a hint of 60s charm...” Me: “But it’s a phone shaped like a haaamburrrger...”).
In between these deep and meaningful marital conversations, we mostly were sleeping at One Broad Street, a fab little place which bridges that gap between B&B and boutique very nicely indeed.

Bloglink...'Where Is Harriet?: Matalan Autumn Winter'
A very quick post... check out Matalan's mod-inspired AW collection as blogged by Where Is Harriet?
where is harriet?: Matalan Autumn Winter
Matalan seems to be THE place to go for affordable repro-styles (that, as a customer, I find last/wash well: so no 'fast fashion trash' either), as well as catwalk inspired looks and basics. Oh, I do sound like a nanna saying that but it's truuuue!

Sew and Sew
His Lordship gave me a sewing machine for my birthday. A 1914 Singer in perfect working order with original case, to be precise.
Well, it was in perfect working order when he bought it; by the time it arrived at our flat, the case was smashed to pieces and the workings somewhat bruised...
